What We Do

We give cameras to strangers to document their lives.

Life on Film is an unscripted series that places disposable cameras and Super 8 video cameras in the hands of real people, then transforms what they capture into short films.

Each one of our films is a cinematic experience.

How It Works

  1. Two hikers posing in front of a snow-covered mountain, shot on a Life on Film camera01

We hand a stranger a camera

From airports and street corners to remote towns, we approach complete strangers and ask them to document their lives. Nothing is ever staged or planted.

  2. A person with arms raised beside a turquoise mountain lake, shot on a Life on Film camera02

    They shoot their world

Road trips with friends, honeymoons, or quiet afternoons at home. The moments no one else sees.

  3. Someone in a hot tub looking out at a cloud-covered mountain, shot on a Life on Film camera03

    They send it back

They mail the camera back, we develop the film and send them the scans.

  4. A circle of skiers in helmets and goggles looking down at the camera, shot on a Life on Film camera04

    We bring it to life

Edited together and set to music, the photos become a short film seen by millions.

The Mission

In a feed full of performance, we focus on authentic storytelling.

We believe the most extraordinary stories belong to ordinary people.

As influencers present idealized versions of their lives and AI makes reality easier to imitate, authenticity is becoming harder to recognize and trust. Life on Film offers a deeply human counterweight by giving us an unfiltered window into the lives of real, everyday people.

We tell stories that audiences know they can trust.

The Founders

Founded in New York in 2023 by three friends.

Life on Film was founded by Christian Baiocco, Grant Weintrob, and Griffin Katz, friends since their school days in New York City. It began in the fall of 2023, when they started giving disposable cameras to strangers on the streets of NYC. Around 70 films later, the three were named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in Media, and Life on Film won Instagram's Inaugural Rings award.
